Circa second half 19th century | England
An antique pair of cast brass tapersticks with vase knopped stems on a raised octagonal foot (see The Gen).
DIMENSIONS: Height 9.5 cm.
CONDITION: In very good condition, wear consistent with an antique age and use. The brass has a lovely rose patina created and looks wonderful when a taper candle is lit. No evident restoration.

THE GEN
“Tapersticks were used on a desk for softening sealing-wax, as they were more economical than a candlestick burning a large candle. Travellers used them for the same purpose.” (Domestic Metal Work, 1640–1820, Rupert Gentle, Antique Collectors Club, 1994, p. 210)
